Doublewide Dreams

  • Tune Up Basement Bar 24 West Mendenhall Street Bozeman, MT, 59715 United States (map)

You might think when a father and son play in a band together, that it’s the son playing in his dad’s band.

But in the case of Livingston’s Doublewide Dreams, it’s actually local musician Kevin Toll playing in the band his son, Cleo Allen-Toll, 30, started. Kevin, 60, part of Livingston’s music scene for decades, took a step back from his own band, Strangeways, to work with Cleo, both of them said recently in separate interviews.

“I co-write some songs, but it’s his band,” Kevin said. “I know what he wants. I’m backing him up—I’m in his band.”

“He kind of quit his band to be in mine,” Cleo said. “He hopped over to my band and wanted to support me in my songwriting six or seven years ago.”

“It’s a mixture of being proud and frustrated,” he said, chuckling. “We definitely have a typical father-son relationship. He thinks he knows everything. I think I know everything and between us we know a couple of things.”

And after a short pause, Kevin added, “It’s cool because I actually get to spend some time with him.”
